چکیده

A new rst-order di erential microphone array with an in nitely steerable and variable beampattern is described. The microphone consists of 6 small pressure microphones ush-mounted on the surface of a 3/4" diameter rigid nylon sphere. The microphones are located on the surface at points where included octahedron vertices contact the spherical surface. By appropriately combining the three Cartesian orthogonal pairs with simple scalar weightings, a general rst-order differential microphone beam (or beams) can be realized and directed to any angle in 4 steradian space. A working real-time version has been created and measured results from this microphone are shown. This microphone should be useful for surround sound recording/playback applications and to virtual reality audio applications.

Aspects of first-order differential microphone arrays in the presence of sensor imperfections

Array processing for broadband signals like speech is not a trivial task. Most sensor arrangements and the related beamforming algorithms show strong frequency dependent characteristics. Differential microphone arrays promise frequency independent high directional gain with compact arrangements. However, this type of microphone array has also the problem that even small deviations in microphone...

On the design and implementation of linear differential microphone arrays.

Differential microphone array (DMA), a particular kind of sensor array that is responsive to the differential sound pressure field, has a broad range of applications in sound recording, noise reduction, signal separation, dereverberation, etc. Traditionally, an Nth-order DMA is formed by combining, in a linear manner, the outputs of a number of DMAs up to (including) the order of N - 1. This me...

Application of differential microphone array for IS-127 EVRC rate determination algorithm

Differential microphone array is known to have low sensitivity to distant sound sources. Such characteristics may be advantageous in voice activity detection where it can be assumed that the target speaker is close and background noise sources are distant. In this paper we develop a simple modification to the EVRC rate determination algorithm (EVRC RDA) to exploit the noise-canceling property o...

Application of a first-order differential microphone for efficient voice activity detection in a car platform

Handsfree interfaces provide a nice solution to add-on devices in car platforms. However, the amount of acoustic disturbances existing in automotive environments usually prevents satisfactory results. In most of the cases, noise reduction techniques involving a voice activity detector (VAD) are required. Through this paper, a robust microphone array processing technique for speech detection und...

Beamforming using a spherical microphone array based on legacy microphone characteristics

This paper presents a numerical approach that projects frequency-dependent directivity patterns of classic recording microphones onto steerable beams created with a spherical microphone array. In an anechoic chamber, the spatial and timbral characteristics of a legacy recording microphone and the characteristics of a 120-channel spherical microphone array were measured. Using a least-square mat...
